The Man Cave
Fair is fair. To counterbalance the wife’s lovely retreat upstairs filled with light, flowers and artwork, the couple requested a “man cave” in the basement. It is decidedly masculine, sophisticated and comfortable…with a hint of glamour tossed in.
With their passion for good wine, dining and entertainment, it was natural for the design team at Katherine Elizabeth Designs to separate each area.
Wine and Spirits: The full-service bar is backed with high gloss, black lacquer cabinets with brass corners. A walk-up island is upholstered in textured leather panels rimmed in nail heads and topped in Cambria quartz. An antiqued mirror backsplash opens up the room, reflecting the light from the windows. A retro Lucite and brass light fixture hangs over the bar. The gray-washed porcelain floor looks like hardwood and yet is easy to maintain.
Dining: A generous table seats eight for dinner parties or hosts buffet style. A fine art gold lamp surrounded by rock crystals casts a beautiful light overhead. Nearby, the island and bar are conveniently open for guests to walk up and make their own drinks or just gather around. With original oil paintings of musicians such as Louis Armstrong on the wall and a special sound system, the entire area exudes a club-like feel.
Entertainment: There are quite a few niches in this expansive man cave that cater to entertaining. The popular pool table, large-screen projection TV, comfortable sectional, chaises, loveseats and Chevron-patterned swivel chairs invite all in for movies, sports and shows. There is a perfect spot for gaming for all ages in front of the fireplace. In all viewing areas, the floor is covered in a lush gray and cream carpet.
Both unique spaces are perfect for casual or formal gatherings, large and small. Each "cave" appears to cater to a specific gender, but, in fact, they are welcoming to all who enter.
Men are from Earth. Women are from Earth. Deal with it.
