Exclusive Peek: Interior Design Magic Unveiled

At KED Interiors, completing a project is always a happy and emotional moment. For us every project is special and we love walking out of a home, knowing our clients will enjoy it for a lifetime. Over the years, we’ve documented many of our projects for various reasons; to submit for industry awards, for publication, or to build our varied portfolio. However, we’ve come to realize, we like having the images just to enjoy the memories of every space we’ve completed. We’ve been doing this for a while now (we opened in 2005!) and have learned a couple important lessons about how to document our interior design projects. First and foremost, it can be a lot of work! We recently wrapped up a stunning project in Barrington, IL, and we’re excited to take you behind the scenes of our fun and busy day.

The Prep:

Preparation for a photoshoot is no small feat. While the space itself is beautifully finished, our team always pulls together a detailed creative brief ahead of time, which includes a shot list, inspiration/mood board, timeline and a list of accessories we will use to make the space appear just the right amount of “lived in”.

On the day of the shoot, it’s all hands on deck, and everyone pitches in to make sure everything looks perfect. From fluffing pillows to arranging flowers, we get to work, discussing every detail. Our secret weapon? An incredible photographer and stylist, and A LOT of Starbucks.

Capturing the Magic:

The dining room, with its stunning bay windows and sparkling chandelier, was a joy to shoot. We wanted to capture the natural light flooding the space, making it feel inviting, warm and elegant. The way the light played off the surfaces was magical, and there were plenty of “Ooh, that’s perfect!” moments as we clicked away.

But let’s get real—photoshoot days are also about the unplanned moments that make us laugh. There’s a lot of running around, last-minute adjustments, and, of course, a bit of chaos.

We also took some candid shots of our team in action. These are some of our favorite images because they show the genuine collaboration and fun we have together. Whether it’s a quick high-five after a great shot or a group huddle to figure out the next angle, these moments reflect the heart and soul we pour into our work.
