In this extensive first-floor remodel, KED Interiors honored the original French-inspired elements our clients cherished, such as the limestone fireplace and wood paneling, while infusing modern sensibilities into the furniture layout. “The Before”
Discovery & Design
Every project begins with a discovery meeting, which is crucial in setting the stage for what’s to come. For this particular remodel, our clients desired a space that paid homage to the French architectural roots of their home while incorporating modern elements to enhance functionality and style. The original kitchen and dining areas were functional but dated, lacking the flow and cohesion desired for entertaining and everyday living.
Refinement & Personalization
Post the initial consultation, our team drafted a design proposal that outlined a sophisticated yet inviting kitchen space, sitting area, family room and updates to the sitting room and formal dining room. Existing art and beloved furniture items were kept, and our team used them as inspiration for the palette and overall aesthetic, while adding interesting features such as sconces and soft furnishings to enhance the spaces. During this phase of the design, we relied on our schematic design process, as well as 3D renderings to ensure that every element was perfectly aligned with the client's vision. This approach allowed for detailed previews and adjustments before the execution of the renovation, guaranteeing that the space would not only meet but exceed expectations.
Details & Execution
Upon approval of the initial concepts and space planning, we delved into the finer details. This phase involved selecting, ordering and managing the custom materials such as the elegantly carved kitchen island, antiqued mirror cabinets, and a bespoke backsplash that collectively enhance the kitchen's romantic and inviting ambiance. Every element, from the cabinetry to the placement of windows, was designed to ensure the space was not only beautiful but supremely functional. Our team was on hand and available during the renovation, working closely to ensure no details were overlooked.
Coordination & Completion
The final leg of our journey involved meticulous coordination of countless design elements and logistical details. On “Install Day” the KED Team personally oversaw placement of every item. Notable features include the lovely sitting room alongside the kitchen, which features swivel chairs that allow our clients to remain connected to kitchen activity or enjoy views of the backyard. Small accessories, an extra soft throw and beautiful lighting complete the space. Plentiful storage, including a fully equipped scullery and wet bar, along dual islands and a cabinet that houses a large screen TV are all discretely designed to effortlessly caters to daily needs and sophisticated entertaining.
The living area features a stunning limestone fireplace that serves as a focal point, surrounded by meticulously restored wood paneling that adds warmth and depth to the room. The furniture selection and styling is a harmonious mix of classic and contemporary pieces, creating a space that is both timeless and fresh.
The dining room, with its elegant chandelier and large windows, was designed to capture and reflect natural light, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The intricate woodwork and luxurious fabrics add layers of texture and richness, making every meal feel like a special occasion.
